Will perming healthy fine hair ruin the hair?

I have very soft fine hair but not fine in the way that it's flat and thin. I have a thick head of fine(small strands) hair. I have no highlights, in fact I've dyed it darker maybe just a few months ago. I've been told no no dont ruin your hair but I'm curious as to whether or not a larger curl perm will hold in my hair. I've been told it will break the hair but I mean I dont know if that outweights the advantage of being able to not have to style it every morning. I'm going to study abroad next semester and need to have a cute style that doesn't require me having to wash and blow every morning. When my hair is curled it has body and looks really nice with my face shape, so it's not like curls don't work on my face. Please don't just say it will ruin unless you have fine hair and have gotten one in the past. If you say it did ruin it what exactly happened. Thanks.,

I have permed my hair off and on my whole life. I also dye it regularly. I have the softest hair of anyone I know. The key to nice hair is taking care of it. I am not saying to buy expensive shampoo either. Find a shampoo that works for you and condition your hair everytime you wash it. Get a deep conditioner and apply that once a week. Avoid shampoos with high acidic counts and do not overapply styling products. I find the best line is Dove personally. It hydrates my hair but doesnt weigh it down. They have some really great products for curls too if you do decide to get it done. A side note- If you hair absorbs the perm good it is true that it will last a very long time. You will either have to reperm the new hair that has grown, cut the permed part off, or deal with having half permed hair. Also you need to be careful of larger perm styles. If you use too big of a roller you will end up with perm just on the bottom of your hair. Make sure your stylist knows what their talking about and ask about the different rollers and what kind of curl it will give you. It will be tight for the first week so dont freak out, it will loosen up gradually. It is normally very helpful to bring a picture of the kidn of hair your hoping for.

It really does, It'll stay permed for 2 years or so then your hair will end up frizzy burned and fried.

I am a hairdresser at trade secret. take it from me and dont perm your hair. its not worth the damage, large rolled perms dont last so its a waist of money and your other comment is right. it will be beautiful for a few days then just frizz. there is a new cut called helix that will cut just enough curl in your hair to give you body and scrunch abillity.

all chemicals have awful effect on hairs specially after you got them done in months,expect split ends or gray hair,worse is if you find youre hair thinning out!
